Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for setup, permissions, motion detection, privacy, and purchases.

What devices does Shake Alarm support?

Shake Alarm is built for iPhone on iOS 26 or later. It needs alarm access for scheduled alarms and motion access for shake challenges.

Why does Shake Alarm ask for alarm access?

Alarm access lets Shake Alarm schedule and present the wake-up alarms you create. The app asks for this when saving alarms that need system alarm support.

Why does Shake Alarm ask for motion access?

Motion access lets the app count controlled shakes during a challenge or calibration session. Motion samples are processed live on your iPhone and are not uploaded to QnSub.

My shakes are not counting. What should I try?

Use controlled movement with a secure grip, try Easy difficulty, keep the phone awake during the challenge, and run calibration if you have Pro. Very gentle motion may not pass the shake threshold.

What does Strict Mode do?

Strict Mode is designed for firmer routines. It removes snooze and counts skipped alarms in history so the alarm outcome is harder to ignore.

What is included in Pro?

Pro unlocks deeper customization, including 3-100 shakes, difficulty and sound options, snooze tuning, Strict Mode, calibration, haptics, and other challenge settings. Pro is offered through Apple StoreKit as a monthly option or a one-time unlock.

Does Shake Alarm need an account or internet connection?

No account is required. Core alarms, settings, challenges, and history are designed to work locally. The App Store may require a network connection for purchases, subscription status, and restore purchases.

Should I use a backup alarm?

Yes, if missing an alarm would create risk. Shake Alarm is a wake-up utility, not a guaranteed safety, medical, emergency, or life-critical alert system.

Where can I read the privacy policy?

The full policy is at /shakealarm/privacy. Short version: no account, no ad SDKs, no analytics SDKs, and motion processing stays on the iPhone.
