CompassOne Privacy Policy

CompassOne is designed as a local-first navigation utility with no account, no ads, and no tracking SDK.

CompassOne is an iPhone compass, waypoint, map, radar, level, trail, and location sharing utility. It is designed to work without a QnSub account, advertising SDKs, third-party tracking SDKs, or a QnSub cloud service for core navigation records.

What CompassOne stores on your device

CompassOne may store the following locally on your device:

  • Compass settings - north mode, smoothing, alignment tolerance, haptic preference, keep-screen-awake setting, coordinate format, units, and selected theme.
  • Saved places - waypoint names, icons, coordinates, altitude when available, accuracy, notes, tags, favorite state, parking state, and dates.
  • Trip trails - trail names, route points, timestamps, distance, duration, and GPX export state when you choose to record a trail.
  • Field project data - project notes, measurements, coordinates, and exports you create in field tools.
  • App shortcuts and widget state - local state used to open CompassOne actions such as Open Compass, Save Current Place, Share Location, Guide To Car, and Level.

Location access

CompassOne uses location to show True North, coordinates, saved places, map position, Find My Car, Go-To Arrow, route context, and location sharing. Your location stays on the device unless you choose to share or export it.

Precise location

CompassOne may request precise location when you save waypoints or guide back to them. If precise location is off, some coordinates, map, saved-place, and Go-To features may be approximate or unavailable.

Camera access

CompassOne uses the camera for Field Lens overlays that show bearing, route, and level guidance over the live view. Camera access is requested only for camera-based features. CompassOne does not send camera video to QnSub.

Motion access

CompassOne uses motion sensors to improve tilt, level, and compass display stability. Motion readings are used for live guidance and are not uploaded to QnSub.

Exports and sharing

Location cards, waypoint exports, trip trail exports, GPX files, KML files, CSV files, JSON files, and shared coordinates are controlled by you after they leave CompassOne. If you share or save exported files elsewhere, that destination's privacy practices apply.

Purchases

If CompassOne is distributed as a paid app or offers paid features, Apple processes purchase, refund, payment, and App Store account information through its own systems. CompassOne does not receive or store your Apple Account credentials, payment card, or billing details.

Network, analytics, and ads

CompassOne does not require a QnSub account and does not include advertising SDKs or third-party tracking SDKs. Core compass, saved-place, bearing, and field records are designed to stay local. Apple services, maps, App Store purchase behavior, device backups, and normal system services may use network access under Apple's terms and privacy policies.

What we do not do

  • We do not require a CompassOne account.
  • We do not sell location, waypoint, trail, or heading data.
  • We do not use advertising SDKs.
  • We do not use third-party tracking SDKs.
  • We do not upload saved places, trails, camera video, or motion readings to QnSub.
  • We do not track users across apps or websites.

iCloud and device backups

Local CompassOne data may be included in normal iPhone backups depending on your iOS, iCloud, and backup settings. Apple Maps, App Store purchases, device backups, widgets, shortcuts, and permission prompts are governed by Apple's own terms and privacy policies.

Deleting your data

You can delete saved places in the app where controls are available. You can also delete CompassOne from your iPhone to remove its local app data container. Exported files, shared messages, and device backups must be deleted from wherever you saved or shared them.

Safety note

CompassOne is a general navigation aid and is not a certified marine, aviation, military, or emergency navigation instrument. Compass accuracy can be affected by magnets, vehicles, buildings, electronics, and device sensors. Always use proper judgment and backup navigation tools in remote or hazardous environments.

Changes to this policy

If CompassOne's privacy practices change, we will update this page with a new effective date. Material changes, such as adding cloud sync, analytics, advertising, or a QnSub account system, will be highlighted.
