TapTalk is an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) app for iPhone and iPad. It helps a user communicate by tapping visual word tiles that speak words or phrases aloud. TapTalk is designed to work offline, without an account, advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or cloud sync.

What TapTalk stores on your device

TapTalk may store the following locally on the device:

  • Board preferences - layout density, page controls, background, font style, display settings, and caregiver editing state.
  • Vocabulary and communication history - starter vocabulary, selected cards, sentence bar contents, recent tap patterns, and local word prediction data.
  • Custom cell settings - edited labels, spoken phrases, image emphasis, crop choices, text scale, and other cell-specific display settings.
  • Selected photos - images a caregiver chooses for custom communication cells.
  • Voice recordings - optional familiar voice recordings saved for individual communication cells.

Speech and word prediction

TapTalk uses device speech features to speak selected words and phrases. Local prediction may learn from recent card selections to suggest likely next words. Prediction data is stored locally and is used to improve the communication board on that device.

TapTalk does not upload spoken phrases, communication history, prediction data, board settings, photos, or recordings to QnSub.

Photos

A caregiver can choose images for custom cells. TapTalk receives only the images selected through iOS photo picking and may copy selected images into local app storage so the customized cell continues to work.

Microphone

TapTalk asks for microphone access only when a caregiver records a familiar voice for a communication cell. Recordings are stored locally on the device and used only for playback when that cell is selected.

Network, analytics, and ads

TapTalk does not require an account and does not include advertising SDKs or analytics SDKs. Core communication features are designed to work without a network connection.

What we do not do

  • We do not require a TapTalk account.
  • We do not sell communication data.
  • We do not use advertising SDKs.
  • We do not use analytics SDKs.
  • We do not upload communication boards, photos, recordings, or prediction history to QnSub.
  • We do not track users across apps or websites.

iCloud and device backups

Data stored locally by TapTalk may be included in your normal device backups depending on your iOS, iPadOS, iCloud, and backup settings. Apple system services such as device backup, Photos, microphone permission, and speech are governed by Apple's own terms and privacy policies.

Deleting your data

You can remove custom cell photos, recordings, and customizations inside the app where controls are available. You can also delete TapTalk from the device to remove the app and its local data container. Device backups or exported copies must be deleted separately from the places where they were saved.

Children and supervised use

TapTalk may be used by children or people who communicate with caregiver support. A parent, guardian, caregiver, teacher, or clinician should decide what personal photos, words, and recordings are appropriate to add to the board.

Communication aid note

TapTalk is a communication aid. It does not replace professional medical care, speech-language therapy, emergency services, or caregiver judgment.

Changes to this policy

If TapTalk's privacy practices change, we will update this page with a new effective date. Material changes, such as adding cloud sync or telemetry, will be highlighted.
